Rogaine Is The Most Celebrated Over The Counter Drug
The promise to halt hair loss and gradually reverse the trend of the receding hair line has found favor in the eyes of many, and it is safe to say that Rogaine is the most celebrated over the counter drug currently found on the shelves of supermarket pharmacies anywhere!
At the heart of Rogaine is a substance known as Minoxidil which was originally intended to offer substantial health benefit to those suffering from high blood pressure; the chemical compound has the unique ability to dilate blood vessels and the American Medical Association early on recognized the potential of a drug that could be of vital importance to those falling into the high risk categories of heart disease, heart attacks and even strokes. Quite by accident, test subjects during clinical trials reported that when taking Minoxidil orally it appeared that their hair loss was halted and in most cases even reversed! This most unanticipated and at the same time welcome side effect led to the creation of Rogaine, a substance found in tens of thousands medicine cabinets today.
Those with a keen eye on their receding hair line like the idea of being able to purchase the substance in the grocery store without having to make a monthly trek to their primary care physician for a prescription. On the other hand, a problem has been reported when users of the drug suddenly stop taking it. All the ground regained and hair re-grown is soon lost again and Rogaine is indeed the kind of medicine that will need to be taken over the lifetime of the consumer to maintain the effects. Although the exact workings of Minoxidil are still only subject of speculation and not fully confirmed, scientists generally hold that the dilation of blood vessels leads to an increased blood flow to the scalp where follicles are thus encouraged to return from dormancy and once again grow hair.
Although considered safe for both men and women – it is vital to realize that many anti hair loss drugs are not safe for women – the Rogaine with the concentrated amount of Minoxidil should not be used by women of childbearing years since the effects on fetal development and the safety during nursing have not been studied and it is impossible to make educated guesses with respect to the ramifications the use may have.
Application of Rogaine is quick and simple. Instead of a messy sticky substance that is familiar to many who have investigated various different kinds of hair growth tinctures, balms and salves, this one is refreshingly different by being the kind of medicine that simply gets sprayed on and forms a foam Yet be forewarned that there is no drug without side effects and some consumers have reported that the foam actually made their scalp itch to such an extent that the scratching has injured the skin on their heads. It is a good idea to stop using the Rogaine at this point and perhaps visit a physician to ascertain if there is a secondary problem with your head’s skin prior to once again attempting to re-grow your waning tresses with the help of drugs.
